2020 Review

2020 has indeed been a strange year. Most of the reviews for 2020 out there are quite negative (but also quite hilarious). Early on in the year we decided to look for silver linings regarding the Covid-19 situation. Yes, we had to watch our budget extremely carefully and we did not get to spend time with friends. But the extra time did give us the opportunity to work on The Container House Project. Therefore here’s a quick 2020 review on the work we did on our home over the last year.

January – We Began With the Interior

The year kicked off with us moving onto the interior of the building, where we began with interior cladding. Cladding also required us to begin with interior electrics and plumbing.

Trees!

We also bought a few trees and planted them. We haven’t done much more than that in the yard but it has been awesome watching the trees adapt to their new environment and for the most part, thrive. Sadly, the apple tree did not make it. The olive tree, on the other hand, has again produced fruit this year and the tree is currently full of tiny olives.

Lockdown

Then, of course, the lockdown began and we found ourselves in need of an “at home” office, as several members of our family have jobs outside of Small Scale Engineering. Using materials we had, off-cuts and refurbished workshop fittings, we soon had a fully functional office.

Home office complete!

Our Greatest Accomplishment of 2020

Our greatest accomplishment for 2020 was completing the south “wing” of our home. It was very exciting for us to be able to reveal the south side to our readers. We still have not yet purchased drawer faces or doors for this side, but we are using the space and very much enjoying it. As we work on other sections of the house, we are using the knowledge gained in this area, to our benefit.

North Wing

From here, work could begin in earnest on the north side of The Container House. The bathroom, with its used shower panel set, is about complete and work is progressing well in other areas. We should be able to release our next reveal video early in 2021.

And with that, we hope that you too have had some positive aspects to look back on over the last twelve months for your own 2020 review. We also hope you will have the chance to enjoy some time with your families over the next few weeks and most importantly, keep safe and healthy.

This is our last post for the year. We’ll be back next year with lots more exciting posts and DIY tips for your own homes!

    1. Thank you! Hopefully we’ll kick off January with something very awesome ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. Excellent work guys!

I’m still building my monstrosity, albeit on the home stretch now. Top floor almost done, trusses ordered, although I need to wait till February for the IBR sheeting, as there is no steel available for love nor money at the moment. I can’t start seriously on the interior till I have a roof, so that will slow progress till next year.

    1. Thank you! Sounds like you also have lots to look forward to in 2021 ๐Ÿ˜

  3. Keep up the good work! It’s nice to see the progress! I’m sure you must be enjoying the aircon in this warm weather.

    1. For sure! We feel quite spoilt. ๐Ÿ˜‰
